Placenta Encapsulation

A private professional service will work with your lifestyle, making it easy for you to enjoy the benefits of your placenta while you focus on your baby.

Moms that take placenta capsules report fewer emotional issues, have more energy and tend to enjoy a faster, better postpartum recovery. With encapsulation the placenta is dried, powdered and encapsulated—they are taken for a few weeks postpartum Some women have even reported feeling positive effects as quickly as the same afternoon of the day they began their first dose. Women who were already feeling “weepy”, or experiencing other early signs of the baby blues, have felt better within days. Although the current scientific research is exciting, we have barely begun to scratch the surface of the potential benefits of placentophagy. Considering that placenta is a completely natural substance, created by a woman’s own body, encapsulation of the placenta is definitely worth considering as part of a holistic postpartum recovery for every expectant woman.

What is the Process to encapsulate the placenta?

Once you have contacted me to provide the encapsulation service for you, I will want to collect the placenta within 48 hours of the birth. This is for a few reasons. Firstly, this is for health and safety reasons. But just as importantly, because you are likely to feel at your lowest on day four or five, it’s ideal to have your encapsulated placenta pills back as soon as possible, to help you through. You should refrigerate or freeze your placenta soon after the birth – I can’t encapsulate the placenta if it’s been out for too long. The placenta will take around 2 days to prepare and dehydrate . Firstly, it’s washed well, and any clots and blood are removed. I then steam the placenta with essential oils, then I dehydrate the placenta. Following this, the placenta is then ground down into powder form and placed into capsules – so it ends up looking like any other herbs you might take in capsule form. You can begin taking the capsules as soon as you receive them, storing them in a dark cupboard at room temperature in most climates. Some prefer to put them in the fridge, but take care not to get them wet or they will dissolve. If you live in a tropical or humid climate, the freezer will be the best place to prevent mold. You can expect to receive around 100-200 capsules, which can be frozen for storage if you want to use them for balancing hormones at another time. It is best to check with your midwife or health care professional to be sure that your placenta is healthy and able to be consumed. It may be best to just ask if it is healthy, depending on your relationship with your caregiver.

Avoiding Postpartum Blues

Your placenta contains your own natural hormones. By taking the capsules it reintroduces your hormones to your system and is believed to balance postpartum hormonal fluctuations, the leading cause of baby blues.
